Types of Rangoli in India SanskarBharati Rangoli

Updated: Jul 29

Sanskar Bharati Rangoli is a special form of Rangoli designed by the artist of “Sanskar Bharti” an organization that works for the promotion of Indian art and culture, since 1954.

The word “Sanskar Bharati Rangoli” portrays a large bright colourful carpet of rangoli, which is its signature style. This style of rangoli is incredibly unique and special because of its drawing process.

In all other regional forms of rangoli designs with colour, the design is drawn first and the colours are filled in the completed design later. In the Sanskar Bharati style the process is reverse, whereby layers of different rangoli colours are spread on the floor first covering a large area and then the design is drawn on top of these colourful layers with white rangoli powder.

Sanskar Bharati

Rangoli’s are generally large circular designs but they are also drawn in other shapes and forms as well. They are created by sieving bright coloured rangoli powder on the floor to form large concentric circles or rows of colours. On this colourful carpet of rangoli colours, special rangoli motifs peculiar to the Sanskar Bharati style are drawn. Sanskar Bharati basic motifs include the Bindu, Resha, Urmi, Nakshi, Kendravardhini, Gopadma, Turra, Shankh, Patran, Pushpa, Aum, Swastik etc. A beautiful c

ombination of these motifs forms the actual rangoli design, which rests on top of the beautiful rows of colours, thus truly representing the name “Ranga-Valli” (Rows of colours).

Sanskar Bharati Rangoli’s are extremely popular all over India and are routinely created on various festivals and ceremonies at public places, on roads, large grounds, or halls through teamwork of large groups of rangoli artists. These rangoli’s are exceptionally lar

ge and hence need significant rangoli material and team of artists.

A special rangoli in the Sanskar Bharati Style was drawn on the “World Earth Day” on the 22nd of April, which is also celebrated as Bhu-Alankaran (earth’s jewellery) Diwas or Rangoli Day since the year 2017.

This Sanskar Bharati Rangoli in Soulart Style dipicts basic motifs in repetitive or alternate patterns drawn with white rangoli elements on a colourful carpet of concentric circles, and is studded with diamonds, pearls and sandblast work.
