It is known as Jhoti or Chita in Orissa. jhoti involves line art using the traditional white coloured, semi liquid paste of rice or pithau, and are drawn with fingers on walls or floor smeared with "Dhau". Intricate and beautiful floral or animal designs, like the lotus, or elephants, are drawn in these designs. Small footmarks of goddess Lakshmi are usually a must in any jhoti.
Jhoti-Chita designs are also drawn on walls with delicate movements of fingers and swirls of the wrist to create patterns resembling bunches of paddy emerges on the wall, called Dhana Shishaas. These are free hand designs drawn without a dot grid. There are different types of Jhoti-Chita drawn for various occasions like Laxmi Paada Chita, Swapna Padma Chita, etc.
This Soulart Jhoti-Chita depicts the auspicious symbols of Kamal (the Lotus flower) rested on two adjacent Shankh (Conches). The center of the Kamal depicts the footprints of Goddess Lakshmi. The entire jhoti-chita is detailed with intricate and fine design and finished with a decorative border.
