Soulart Paintings & Handicrafts

Rangoli (Rang - Colour, Aavalli - Rows of Colours) is a Sanskrit word which means “a creative expression of art through the use of colours”. It is an ancient ephemeral art form, originated thousands of years ago in the Indian subcontinent. It is created by drawing various patterns and special motifs on the floor or the ground using house-hold materials, to welcome the guests and bring in positive energy. This art is one of its kind, which is practiced in many different parts of India from North to South and East to West. It is known with many different vernacular names and has it's unique styles and motifs depending on the region.

It is usually drawn during festivals and while performing religious rituals and other celebrations because apart from the visual and aesthetic appeal, there is a spiritual significance attached to this art. It is used as a tool to keep away negativity & welcome positive energy into the house. The tradition of drawing a rangoli daily, has been practiced by women of India since ages and this tradition still prevails, predominantly in the rural areas, however in the busy life of urban India and the lovers of this art outside of India, its presence is diminishing and is seen only on major festivals like the Indian Diwali Lights festival, during which people draw rangoli in their houses or use Rangoli stencils.

Soulart Paintings & Handicrafts is a social venture towards propelling the ancient Indian art form RANGOLI, by transforming it, to a more permanent nature and carry forward this cultural heritage art of India for generations to come and spread its beauty and significance globally.
